Bright Paper Packages – March 2017

The blooming daffodils outside mean only one thing: spring is officially around the corner. One of spring’s finest features is blossoming flowers, filling the landscape with colour and wonderful aromas. None of this would be possible without bees, those buzzing pollinators, and March’s Bright Paper Packages celebrates these small, but hugely important, insects. Honey bees yield one of our favourite sweet products that we enjoy with our breakfast, in beauty products and in candles. So we have a lot of reasons to protect the humble bee and celebrate their role in the changing seasons.

Given the multifaceted role of bees, it’s no surprise that there’s a wide selection of products that can be bundled together for a fully bee theme. Bright Paper Packages have curated a vibrant collection, starting with the cheerful, bright yellow paper tissue and the perky bee design on the back of the subscriber card. It was a vibrant and a good start. I carefully pealed back the tissue to reveal a plethora of surprises…

Bright Paper Packages: March 2017

  • A honeycomb necklace from Rosebud Casson
  • Honey lip balm
  • Bee-friendly wildflower seeds
  • Organic honey waffles from Biona
  • A chocolate bee
  • Subscription card

The first thing that caught my eye was the beautiful honeycomb necklace from Rosebud Casson. It’s a mix of wood and flashes of gold mirror, a chunky piece that sits perfectly on the neck and boasts an unusual cluster of honeycombs. The cherry wood and the small amount of dazzle really appealed to me and made it the perfect necklace to add a dose of personality to dull work attire. I’ve been wearing it all week and absolutely adore it. It’s an attractive balance of natural material with a modern touch, meaning that it doesn’t look cheap or like any necklace you could pick up on the high street. I think this might be one of the best items of a Bright Paper Packages box to date and I genuinely love it.

Following from the gorgeous necklace was another item that has been in constant use since it was unwrapped: a honey lip balm that is a Bight Paper Packages exclusive. It’s so intensely moisturising and so soft on my lips, dry from the ravages of March. It’s made from completely natural ingredients (bonus) and includes both almond and avocado for a rich, slathering feel. Honey is a lavish ingredient in cosmetics and toiletries, so this is a small, but indulgent item that’s been tucked away in my purse for salvation from the harmful city elements.

The bee-friendly wildflower seeds are very timely, as we are almost in April and ready to plant a few new flowerbeds on our balcony. We have admittedly have had little luck with flora to date in our pokey outside area – which only sees the sun for a brief hour in the morning – that won’t stop me from trying. I planted these seeds this weekend because (although we won’t get bees on the second floor), it’s a good reminder of the integral role of bees in pollination.

I would be lying if I said I was excited about the edible treats in March’s box. Both an adorable chocolate bee and some decadent organic honey waffles were gratefully received. I’m a huge fan of waffles with a cup of coffee, so this is the perfect weekend indulgence and an ideal celebratory dessert after planting the bee-friendly seeds! As for the too-cute bee chocolate, that disappeared promptly after a long day at work. Thank you for the emergency supply of mood-enhancing sweets.

There are two Bright Paper Packages subscription options: the standard monthly box and the Bright New Year option, delivering twelve monthly surprise items directly to a recipient of your choice. The regular Bright Paper Packages subscription is available at £20 with shipping included for a one-off purchase (and other subscription options are also available at £57 for three months, £111 for six and £216 for one year, all including UK shipping). The Bright New Year is available for a one-off payment of £100 (with shipping included in the UK).

March’s box was a hit with a great selection of items that got me buzzing. The best part about my Bright Paper Packages subscription is that I never fail to get excited about every element. And now I’ll be checking my window box in the coming weeks to see whether or not my bee-friendly wild flowers bloom, giving me something to enjoy all summer. Here’s hoping!
