Are you in the mood to try some new wines? If so, My Vitibox are a monthly wine subscription box where all of the wines that they include in their boxes are specially hand-chosen by the revered sommelier Alain Gousse (former head sommelier to many Michelin-starred restaurants including La Tour d’Argent and Le Crillon).
However, you don’t need to be a wine connoisseur to enjoy My Vitibox as they do all the groundwork for you. With each box, you’ll receive a full set of Tasting Notes and information about the wines that are included so that you can learn more about their history and how to taste them like a professional.
The wines are sent in shockproof boxes so there’s no need to worry about any accidents during transit and each month’s box is themed, with July’s box being centred around ‘Red And Rosé For The Summer‘, so I was very pleased to find a bottle of Rosé instead of a White for a change!
Here are the wines that I received in July’s My Vitibox:-
Hommage 2016, Domaine Cazes, AOP Côtes du Roussillon
Served in an elegant branded bottle with a sleek black label, this young wine comes from the famous Cazes vineyard – a family run business that has been producing fine wines in the heart of the Roussillon region since 1895. Cazes is also known as one of the biggest bio dynamic vineyards in the world, with a key respect for the environment being at the forefront of their winemaking.
Hommage 2016 is an interesting red wine that’s composed of a triple blend of grapes (10% Mourvedre, 40% Grenache and 50% Syrah). In the glass, the wine has a captivating deep purple tone to it with a lovely sheen, and it has a powerfully fruity aroma.
Taste-wise, this red is dry and medium bodied, but it still tastes very fresh with a strong alcohol aftertaste. There are some delicious hints of Blackberries, Blackcurrants and Cocoa in this blend, making it a delicious red wine for the Summer!
You can enjoy this wine with a range of fresh food dishes including cold meats such as Ham, Salads, Fresh Cheeses and fruity desserts like Blackcurrant Sorbet.
Gourmandise d’un été 2016, Maison Rigal, IGP Comte Tolosan
Receiving a bottle of Rosé was a real treat as I usually get a bottle of White with this Colours & Flavours subscription from My Vitibox, so this was a lovely change!
This Rosé comes from the Comte Tolosan region which receives a lot of sun and gets plenty of fresh air from the neighbouring ocean and mountains. It’s created by Maison Rigal who have been expert winemakers in the wider Cahors area since 1755, with a speciality in Malbec grapes. Indeed, this Rosé is surprisingly made from 100% Malbec grapes which is a first for me to try as I’ve only ever experienced Malbecs in their more traditional red wine form.
Perhaps this is the reason why this wine has such a beautiful and unusual shiny peach colour, and it has a pleasant fruity and floral aroma to match with notes of Rose, Acacia, Peach and Melon. I wasn’t sure what I was expecting this to taste like to be honest, but it’s wonderfully fruity, fresh, dry and medium bodied with a smooth texture – it goes down very easily shall I say!
Gourmandise d’un été 2016 is a delicious Rosé for the Summer months and an excellent choice for July’s box by Alain Gousse. It pairs well with starters such as Melon and Parma Ham, and my favourite choice; a Mozzarella and Pesto pizza – yum!
