TokyoTreat now has a flyer, which has a password to the menu section of the website, listing details of the contents.
This month’s drink is Coca-Cola, in a limited edition Hokkaido design. This design is only sold in Hokkaido, which is Japan’s northernmost island region popular for its vast, beautiful forests, volcanoes, and natural hot springs.
It’s also an aluminium bottle rather than plastic, which is both nicer to drink from, and keeps cold for longer!
This Super Mario Chocolate is a slab of chocolate with crunchy bits, what you break apart to separate the figure from the other pieces!
Perfect for sharing, this Crunchy Panda Party Pack contains eight little bags of gorgeous panda-shaped chocolately cookies. Great for portion control.
Sugar rusk is a very popular snack in Japan, and this Cream Rusk has an extra creamy layer on top.
There are three possible versions of Caplico Mini Ice Cream Flavored Snack, chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla. I got strawberry, my favourite! It’s a little wafer cone with bubbly strawberry chocolate inside, and it looks just like a tiny ice cream cone!
Hi-Chew are famous Japanese chewy candies, and this is the fancy version, Morinaga Hi-Chew Premium Chardonnay. Grape is a very popular flavour in Japan, and these are delicious!
Koala’s March are another famous Japanese brand. They are tiny cookies filled with cream, with a kawaii picture on the cookie.
This version is Koala’s March Kinako, which uses Japanese motifs that can be found on many Japanese New Year items. Kinako is roasted soybean flour, and is commonly eaten at New Year in Japan.
Aerial Rich Chedder Cheese Flavor are crunchy corn snacks which are coated in a mixture of cheddar and cream cheese. Crunchy and savory.
This month’s DIY candy kit is Slime Jelly DIY Kit. You mix water and the powder to make a stretchy, colour-changing slime.
Porinki Corn Snacks are corn-flavoured corn snacks. Corn is a popular flavour in Japan, and these are crunchy and almost sweet!
If you want to get your vitamins while eating candy, Vitamin C Charge Gummies are for you!
Red Snapper is another common dish eaten at New Year, and these Red Snapper Cracker are a seasonal treat.
Ramune Soda Candy Share Pack is another cute sharing pack. Five little packs of crunchy melting ramune candies, each with a different kawaii character on the bag! They are also fortified with calcium.
Finally, Pizza Umaibo. Umaibo (my favourite!) are crunchy tubes of puffed corn with a whole array of different flavours. This pizza version really does taste amazingly like pizza!
This is a great selection to bring in the New Year! I really like they’ve included some seasonal items, and those that link in with Japanese culture.
I’m very pleased that they now include the sharing-type packs. The little bags are great for portion-controlled snacking, or just for giving to friends and family. The panda biscuits are almost too cute to share!
I do miss the old menu though. The online list is useful, and does contain details about the snack, but the menu booklet had lots of other interesting things in it, such as information about Japanese culture. Well, I suppose it’s trading a booklet more highter-quality snacks, especially as last month’s box was the first of their new and improved version!
I think the value is even better now. Fourteen different snacks (or more if you count individual sharing bags) and they are definitely bigger and better! Less than £26 for all of this, including things you’re not going to find outside Japan, is terrific.
Happy New Year!
