If the gloomy weather and freezing temperatures are putting you off from enjoying the weekend with your friends, why not stay in with a cocktail box instead? MicroBarBox are a popular cocktail subscription box, which, yes you’ve guessed it, are all about bringing the joy of cocktails straight into your home!
Every month, they will send you a beautifully presented box filled with a range of premium spirits and mixers which will make around 4-6 cocktails, so there’s plenty to share with your friends. It’s a fun way to experiment with some new and different drinks that you may not have tried before, and a lovely introduction to some classic and artisan brands as well.
The cocktails change from month to month and come with a handy double-sided card that shows you exactly how to prepare each drink. All of the contents have their own compartments and there’s cushioning to protect everything during transit.
Inside December’s MicroBarBox I found:-
1 x Funkin Mojito Cocktail Mixer
1 x Bacardi White Rum
1 x Anno Cranberry & Gin
1 x Fever Tree Aromatic Tonic Water
1 x Fudge Kitchen Drinking Fudge Classic Chocolate
1 x Pennington’s Kendal Mint Cake Liqueur
1 x Vino Spumante Prosecco
As it was the December box, MicroBarBox also included a bar of Divine White Chocolate and a Candy Cane which were fab little extras!
There were 5 cocktails to make in this box and they were all amazing:-
Cocktail 1: Cranberry Gin Fizz
I love Gin and I love Prosecco so this cocktail was a match made in heaven for me! It comprised of a full mini bottle of premium Vino Spumante Prosecco and a splash of Anno’s Cranberry & Gin which gave it a lovely touch of fruitiness and pink colour. I would happily make this again and it would be a fab drink to serve to guests at a dinner party.
Cocktail 2: Mojito
Next up, we have a classic Mojito cocktail which was made with 1/2 a mini bottle of Bacardi White Rum that was blended with the Funkin Cocktail Mixer. I added ice, a slice of lime and a few fresh mint leaves to finish it off. A delicious classic that always reminds me of holidays in the sun!
Cocktail 3: Minter Wonderland
There’s nothing better than a boozy Hot Chocolate to warm you up when it’s cold outside and this Minter Wonderland cocktail ticked all of the right boxes. To make it, I added milk to the Fudge Kitchen Drinking Fudge Classic Chocolate mix (following the instructions on the packet to heat it up), poured it into a latte glass and then added 1/3 of the Pennington’s Kendal Mint Cake Liqueur and the other half of the Bacardi White Rum. I topped it off with some whipped cream and a little chocolate sauce to make it even more indulgent and it was incredible!
Cocktail 4: Cranberry and Tonic
I love trying out different variations of the classic G&T and this one with 3/4 Anno Cranberry & Gin and the Fever Tree Aromatic Tonic Water was oh-so-good. Fever Tree Tonic Waters are my favourite tonics as they’re full of botanicals and natural ingredients, and the Anno Cranberry & Gin was a delicious partner to pair with it.
Cocktail 5: Kendal Mint Cake
After enjoying the Pennington’s Kendal Mint Cake Liqueur in the Minter Wonderland cocktail above, I was curious to see how it would taste on its own as either a shot or a sipping liqueur, so it was great to see this included on the cocktail recipe card. I simply poured some into a small glass and added ice cubes. It was quite strong (24% vol), but very enjoyable and I loved the sweet minty flavour. The colour is unique too!
