Weekend Box – July 2018

The Weekend Box Club is a membership organisation created to provide high quality activities for you & your children to enjoy together.

By providing you with the things you need when you need them, The Weekend Box Club allows you to spend quality time getting to know your children and watching them develop key life skills as you spend time together.

The Bumper Box, which I am reviewing, contains four fun activities to Make, Bake, Explore & More. It costs £8.95 a month, with free delivery. The age range is 3 – 8.

My assistant Little C is seven, so is a great age to be trying this out! This another review where the pictures are lit by quality LED overheads, so please excuse the less than lovely look.  However they are all genuine ‘action shots’!

I love the brightly coloured box with all the different characters on it! It fits through the mailbox, and is addressed to your child.

Inside you get an a booklet with the instructions for the activities, four little bags with the things you need, and two stickers.

This month’s theme is Mischievous Monsters!

The first activity is making a Monster Bookmark. This involves cutting out and sticking to make a monster face. The instructions come with photographs, which are nice and easy to follow.

We decided to make a three-eyed monster! The body is red foam sheets, and there was lovely glittery foam for the eyes and other bits.

The Monster Apples was the ‘cooking’ activity.

I helped with cutting a mouth out of the apple, but then it was over to Little C. She spread Nutella (a mini pack) in the mouth and on top, and then tiny chocolate beans were used for teeth and eyes. Then there was coloured sugar to sprinkle over the top for hair.

Next was creating a Monster Cress Head. The peat pellets needed to be soaked in water, then the pop sock was turned inside out over a cup to contain the peat. That part was a little bit fiddly, but the seeds went in the pop sock, followed by the peat.

Then we just needed to tie it up, and add the eyes and a nose with the extra elastic band.

Little C did the nose herself, so we decided it looked a bit more like a fish than a head! This is one that takes a few days to complete, but it’s always fun to see cress grow.

Finally, a slightly messy activity, a Monster Puppet! 

Painting her hand was very satisfying! Then she made a handprint on the paper and added the eye stickers. Finally, glitter!

(This was before we cut it out.) After it was cut out we stuck on the big lolly stick to make a funny puppet.

As always, this is a lovely collection of activities. I really like the monster theme, it’s great fun.

The cress activity is very clever, is it’s very simple but you have to wait for the results.

This is aimed at ages 3 – 8 so there will be parental supervision and help required, but children will definitely feel like they’re totally involved! You also need to provide a few things, such as scissors and an apple, but they’re all reasonable things you’re likely to have in the house.
