If you’re in the UK you’ll probably know that there’s not been too much summer weather so far, but hopefully the July Life’s a Beach! box will bring us some lovely weather!

I could definitely do with a taste of summer!

The booklet contains a full menu of all the goodies inside.

There’s also some fun cultural trivia! I’m pretty sure the beach in Japan is nice than the UK beaches right now.

First one of those amazing Japan-only flavours, Peach Mint Kit Kats. This is a brand new flavour for summer 2019, and while it’s not an obvious flavour combination, the two flavours work together very well. This is nice and refreshing, mint is great for hot weather!.

Sour Cream and Onion Doritos is a variety that has been discontinued for a long time in the west, but clearly is doing very well in Japan! They’re a great flavour, and a nice retro experience from those who remember them from the 80s.

Melon is a very popular flavour in Japan, and this Melon Cream Soda is the perfect refreshing drink for hot weather! The cream soda part makes it tastes creamy as well as fruity, a little bit like a float. Unusual and very delicious!

Anpanman Grape Gummies are exactly what they say – fruity grape flavour gummy candy. Grape is another flavour that is popular in Japan but you don’t often see it in the UK, but it’s really worth a try!

Texas Corn Okonomiyaki has an unusual name! It’s not actually Texan, but is a corn snack with the flavour of Okonomyaki, which is a savoury pancake with various fillings.

Here’s another minty treat, Chocolate Mint Candy. This is based on mint chocolate ice cream, and is a round mint chocolate hard candy outside, with cocoa on the inside. Sweet and creamy!

Umai Sugar Rusk is a crispy corn snack with the distinctive sweet flavour of sugar rusk, another famous Japanese snack.

Sour Peach Gum has layers of flavour! Start with the sweet outside, the it becomes sour, then finally the sweet chewy middle.

Here’s a fun and slightly surreal candy: Mini Chocolate Bat! Not the flying kind, but the baseball kind. They’re chocolate covered sticks, rather like giant Pocky.

This month’s sharing pack is a four-pack of Crushed Poteco. Poteko are rather like tiny Hula Hoops, salty and delicious, and the salt comes from Okinawa Prefecture.

Dipping a lolly into sherbet is always a lovely candy treat, and this Sherbet Perot Cider is fizzy and delicious.  Japanese cider is a type of fizzy drink, unlike in the UK or the US it doesn’t have anything to do with apples.

This month’s DIY Candy Kit is also Japanese cider-based, CIder Soft Serve. You get a little package of powder and several mini wafer cones You mix the powder with water to create a fizzy foam, then load up the cones so it looks like a tiny fizzy ice cream cone!

Umaibo is a famous Japanese snack, one of my favourites, and consists of a crunchy puffed corn stick with a variety of flavours. This one is Tonkatsu Sauce Umaibo. Tonkatsu sauce is commonly served with fried pork cutlets, and while it has a rich and meaty flavour, the sauce itself is made from vegetables.

Finally, Soda Soft Candy. This is a refreshing almost fizzy candy that tastes slightly of lemons. Great for hot weather!

Well, I’m really hoping for warmer weather to come, because this selection is great for the summer!

I especially love the refreshing minty items, as well as all the fizzy things.

The melon soda is lovely, and completely different from anything you’ll find in the UK. Definitely one to enjoy over ice on a sunny day!

It’s lovely to have some more unusual flavours as well, such as the Doritos and the Texas Corn Okonomiyaki.

Our score: 9.0/ 10

A lovely summery selection with great flavour variety, and the great treat of special Japanese Kit Kats!
