Gin Of The Month: Theodore Pictish Gin (70cl / 43% abv)
July’s featured gin comes presented in a very elegant glass bottle and it’s the first ever spirit to be released by Greenwood Distillers. They have created this bold new gin to perfectly capture the wilderness of the Scottish Highlands and as always, this gin will make a worthy addition to your spirits collection at home.
There’s a complex mix of botanicals at play here with Honey, Coriander, Citric Pomelo, Bourbon, Vetiver, Damask Rose, Juniper, Pink Peppercorn, Angelica, Chamomile, Kaffir Lime, Ginger, Orris, Pine, Lavender, Cardamom and Oolong Tea all bringing their unique elements of flavour to this fine gin. The top notes are quite sweet and citrusy with a hint of crisp pine, whilst it has a floral and woody heart of Oolong and Chamomile that pairs well over a smoky and woody base of Bourbon and Vanilla. It’s certainly different from anything else that I’ve tasted before!
Mixers: Bundaberg Ginger Beer and Fentimans Pink Rhubarb Tonic Waters
Delicious on its own or as a mixer in the cocktails which are featured in the accompanying Ginned! magazine, this bottle of Bundaberg Ginger Beer has gone down a treat. There are also two bottles of Fentimans Pink Rhubarb Tonic Water this month to create the perfect summery G&T.
Garnishes & Mixers: 3/4oz Spritz Syrup and Ruby Grapefruit Slices
I was pleased to find a bottle of 3/4 oz Spritz Syrup which can be used to recreate the Cocktail Of The Month; a Highland Fling (which is delicious by the way!) as well as numerous other drinks such as Manhattans and Negronis making it a useful addition to your drinks cabinet. We have also received a packet of dried Ruby Grapefruit Slices to add extra flavour to your cocktails and G&T throughout Summer.
Extras: Nairn’s Gluten Free Pop Oats in BBQ, The Drinks Bakery Drinks Biscuits in Pecorino, Rosemary and Scottish Seaweed, and Mallow & Marsh Salted Caramel Marshmallows
To complete the box, there are three lots of extra products; two savoury and one sweet. The Nairn’s Gluten Free Pop Oats in BBQ are a tasty snack that comes in at only 83 calories per bag, whilst the box of Drinks Biscuits is an interesting product and they’re super yummy to nibble on whilst you’re enjoying your favourite G&T. I absolutely LOVED the Mallow & Marsh Salted Caramel Marshmallows and this bag did not last very long at all!
