April’s Bruu box is all about celebrating the wonders of the night sky with a very special spacey tea collection. As always there are three gourmet teas to enjoy but this month’s are particularly cosmic, in honour of April’s Lyrid Meteor Shower (which is active between the 16th and the 25th) – a beautiful spectacle of up to 20 shooting stars an hour. Tea and gorgeous science eh? I love it.
So what about the teas? First up there’s Milky Way Mate, a nutrient rich surprisingly creamy Yerba Mate with a beautiful caramel scent which offers a smooth and creamy brew. I didn’t expect such a powerful yet gentle aroma when I opened the bag. It really does smell of glorious ooey gooey caramel and after steeping has a soft and delicious taste. The bag is bursting with liquorice root (although never fear if you don’t like liquorice as you can’t really taste it), caramel, yellow marigold petals and Yerba Mate.
Next up was the Deep Space Black tea, a very special tea made with nothing but the purest tea leaves. This tea is grown high up in the Sri Lankan mountains at the renowned Nuwara Eliya estate which is more than 8,000 feet above sea level. This high altitude helps to create a very mellow and floral cup of tea which can be enjoyed wither without milk. (I chose without so I could taste the delicate flavours at their best).
Finally, last but by no means least is the Lullaby Dream Catcher tea. This was my favourite of the three as it is bursting with both fragrance and taste. I’ve never smelled a tea like it before, its scent is nothing short of heavenly. We’re talking beautiful aromas of fruit, flowers and blossom combined into a heady mix which perfectly encapsulates a warm summer’s night. This tea is also caffeine free so it can be enjoyed while looking up at the starry sky with no fear of it interrupting your night’s sleep.
In this infusion you will find apple pieces, mallow blossoms, silver linden blossoms, marigold blossoms, heather blossoms, safflower and rose petals. Just stunning.
This is my favourite Bruu Gourmet Tea Club box yet. Each tea is so different but all three are delicious and are all perfect for a slightly different occasion. Do you want a soft, mellow tea to help soothe you after a tough day? Milky Way Mate is the one for you. Are you looking for a special caffeine hit? Deep Space Black ticks that box. Or do you need a gentle, relaxing cup to transport you to warmer days? Lullaby Dream Catcher is perfect for that.
A Bruu subscription (which gives you three teas every month and makes 40 cups of the hot stuff) costs just £10 which I think is great value. That’s just 25p per cup of gorgeous, gourmet tea right in your own home. Yes you need to invest in a teapot and a tea strainer (unless you like chomping on floating bits of the loose tea) but I think that all adds to the fun and ritual of making a proper cuppa. Loose tea has flavour that teabags can only dream of and it’s well worth the extra effort.
