Here’s what’s inside September’s box:-
Gin Of The Month: Wessex Alfred The Great Gin (70cl / 41.3% ABV)
How beautiful is this bottle of gin?! I think it may be the most stunning that I’ve received from Craft Gin Club yet! Distilled by Wessex Gin in the south of England, this flagship bottle is described as a legend in the making and with such royal connotations, it’s easy to see why. Paying homage to the once historic and mightly kingdom of Wessex, this gin is inspired by the flavours of Anglo-Saxon England.
So what does it taste like? This is a very clean and crisp gin that’s predominantly Juniper based as you would expect, but this is mingled in with historical botanicals such as Chervil which has a subtle aniseed flavour, for an unusual twist. There’s also peppery Coriander, Angelica Root, Liquorice and Sweet Orange Peel to make a gin that’s fit for a king. I’m a big fan!
Mixers: Binary Botanical & Peter Spanton Tonics in Lemongrass and Cardamom
There are four bottles of mixers to accompany your gin this month, three of which are from Peter Spanton and these tonics are really lovely. The Lemongrass one adds a nice little zing to your G&T, whilst the Cardamom adds its unique flavour for something special to enjoy.
To create the cocktail of the month (recipe in the excellent GINNED! magazine), you can use the bottle of Binary Botanical to create King Alfred’s Charm which is a delicious and complex drink bursting with different flavours.
Extras & Garnishes: Taylerson’s Blackcurrant Syrup & Apple & Juniper
You’ll also need a measure of the enclosed Taylerson’s Blackcurrant Syrup to perfect the King Alfred’s Charm cocktail and I can see this coming in handy for a range of other cocktails and drinks too. Another featured recipe in the GINNED! magazine is The Perfect G&T which calls for the Wessex Gin, Peter Spanton Lemongrass Tonic and the dried Apple & Juniper garnish above – delicious!
Sweet & Savoury Snacks: Godiva Dark Chocolate Blood Orange & Kent Crisps in Salt & Vinegar with Biddenden Cider
To round off the box, there’s a decadent bar of Godiva Dark Chocolate & Blood Orange to enjoy, as well as a packet of Kent Crisps in Salt & Vinegar with Biddenden Cider – thanks Craft Gin Club!
