Degustabox is a fun and affordable way to try out new and popular food and drink products from a range of different brands. The contents of the box are a surprise every month, but they always offer a good mix of products that are sure to keep everyone in the family happy!
This month’s box doesn’t have a theme this time around, so let’s dive straight in and take a closer look at the contents:-
Green & Black’s Velvet Edition Dark Chocolate – 70% Cocoa (90g bar, RRP £1.99)
Being a chocoholic, I immediately picked out this bar of Green & Black’s when I saw it in the box. This is from their new Velvet Edition range which promises to have ‘exceptionally smooth flavours’ and I have to agree as this bar of organic Dark Chocolate is incredibly rich but has a very smooth, velvety texture at the same time. It uses the finest ethically sourced handpicked Ghanaian Cocoa Beans and has delectable hints of sweet Madagascan Vanilla. Needless to say, it’s utterly delicious!
Nestle Cheerios Oat Crisp (RRP £2.49)
I’ve never been the biggest fan of Cheerios, but this pack combines them with crunchy flakes which is an interesting combination. Made from whole grains and high in fibre, this cereal helps to reduce cholesterol and can help to keep your heart healthy, so it’s a great cereal for the whole family to enjoy at breakfast time.
Virtue Sparkling Energy Water in Lemon & Lime and Berries (RRP £1.35 each)
I’m always on the lookout for healthier drinks to try and these ones from Virtue are perfect if you want a more natural energy drink alternative. They contain no added sugar, sweeteners and have zero calories, plus each can contains the same amount of naturally derived caffeine as a cup of coffee (80mg) to give you an energy boost when you need it the most. I really enjoyed both of these flavours and would definitely buy them again.
San Miguel Gluten Free Beer (RRP £2)
When you sign up to Degustabox, you have the option of whether you want alcohol in your box or not, and this bottle of San Miguel Gluten Free Beer is the alcoholic product for this month’s box. Beer is sadly the only type of alcohol that I don’t really drink, but my housemates were more than happy to take it off my hands! 5.4% ABV and suitable for those following a gluten-free diet.
Wild Planet Albacore Wild Tuna Steaks (RRP £3.49)
Although I personally don’t eat fish as I’m a vegetarian, it was good to see a brand of tuna included that has been ranked number 1 for sustainability in the US by Greenpeace and I hope more people will choose sustainable options as a result. This tin contains just 100% cooked tuna steak and a little sea salt, with nothing else added.
Knorr Rich Beef Concentrated Liquid Stock (RRP £2.20)
Another new product, this time from Knorr. Their Rich Beef Concentrated Liquid Stock is made with real Beef extract and is gluten-free, free from artificial colours, preservatives and has no added MSG. You only need to use a few drops per meal and it dissolves into sauces and casseroles much faster than stock cubes. My mum is always cooking casseroles so she will love this.
Mentos Mint Mix Sharing Pouch (RRP £1.19)
A resealable pouch of Mentos mints in a mixture of Peppermint and Spearmint flavours. I always have mints in the house and these are very minty!
Latin American Kitchen by Santa Maria – Arroz Amarillo Yellow Rice and Carribean Pineapple & Chilli Sticky Sauce (RRP £1.85 each)
This month’s ‘Product of the Month’ comes from Santa Maria’s Latin American Kitchen range and you’ll receive a packet of microwavable rice and a cooking sauce from a range of five different flavours. For the rice, I received the Arroz Amarillo Yellow Rice flavour and for the sauce, I got the Carribean Pineapple & Chilli Sticky Sauce. I tried both of these with my sister last night (I added veggies for me and she had chicken with hers) and they were so tasty! The rice was nice and fluffy and the sauce had just the right amount of sweetness and spice to it. Will definitely keep an eye out in the supermarket for the other flavours to try.
Dream Ancient Grains Milk Alternative (RRP £1.60)
I love trying new plant-based milks and I haven’t come across this one from Dream yet. This is their Ancient Grains flavour which is made from Oat, Spelt and Buckwheat, with added calcium and vitamins. I was pleased to see that it doesn’t have any added sugar and I’ve been enjoying it on my cereal for breakfast this week.
Green’s Creamy Egg Custard Filling (RRP £0.69)
This packet mix from Green’s is their popular Creamy Egg Custard Filling and promises to make ‘smooth and delectable egg custard’ – just add milk, a pre-cooked pastry base and a little nutmeg for a quick and easy classic dessert. I haven’t tried it yet but it looks good!
Miso Tasty Original Ramen Noodle Kit (RRP £2.99)
A new kit from Miso Tasty which includes two nests of ramen noodles, two packets of white miso pastes and two packets of seaweed garnishes. A quick way to make a tasty lunch when you’re short on time and I liked that it uses 100% natural ingredients. If you chose not to receive alcohol in your box, you’ll get this instead!
Seriously Spreadable Squares (full retail voucher)
I also found a voucher for a packet of Seriously Spreadable Squares in this month’s box which you can redeem at your local Tesco, Morrisons or Asda. This cheese spread is made with award-winning Extra Mature Scottish Cheddar for a rich and tangy taste – sounds perfect for crackers or spread over a bagel! Will hunt this down on the next grocery shop.
