Designer Box is a company that loves aesthetic interior style and design. Every two months they send out a beautiful item for your home, all made by independent designers and craftspeople using natural and/or recyclable materials.
Subscriptions cost from €40 per month, and each item will have a value of at least €90. Each box also contains a design magazine, which includes information about the designer of that month’s item.
This box is titled Belgium Is Design. It’s produced in partnership with Belgium Is Design, a collective of institutions celebrating and promoting design work from the three regions of Belgium.
The shipping box opens with a patterned paper cover bearing the design of the collective. It’s monochrome pattern is incredibly striking.
Underneath, there are two cardboard tubes, each labelled, and this month’s design magazine.
The magazine itself is fascinating. As well as the designer of this month’s piece, it contains a wealth of information about many Belgian designers and creators.
As we’ll see, this month’s items is made from glass, and there’s a fascinating piece about how it created, and what makes it so unique.
I’m saying the item, but actually this month there are two. They’re glass, and are packed beautifully in sturdy cardboard tubes with paper padding. In fact, all the packaging is fully recyclable. Everything arrived in completely perfect condition.
And here they are, just unwrapped.
Two beautiful glass carafes, in 1 litre and 1/2 litre sizes.
The shape is beautifully elegant, simple, but will look amazing on any table.
What makes these pieces so individual is spout. Instead of the more common protruding lip, the craftsman makes a cut in the edge during the blowing process to create the spout.
This make each piece unique, as no two will be exactly the same. It also gives a twist the the conventional idea of a jug or carafe. I can assure you that this type of spout still pours perfectly though!
These beautiful carafes can be used for drink, and will suit both a casual and formal table. You could use them for juice for a casual breakfast, and wine for an elegant dinner.
The two sizes are an especial treat, as they can be used separately or together however desired.
I just love these two carafes, they are such a wonderful addition to my glassware collection. I favor simple over decorative, and the chic design with the novelty of the spout fits with my taste perfectly.
