I thoroughly enjoyed The Many-Faced Gin Tasting Box that I received back in September (read my review here), so I was eager to try out another one of their superb Gin themed boxes this time around and opted for ‘Gin O’Clock‘ Tasting Box.
This one features three high-quality Gins that arrived in the classic Flaviar presentation box which is shipped via courier to the UK. Delivery generally takes around 5-7 days, but it’s definitely worth the wait! With the box, you’ll also receive a Flaviar branded coaster and a full set of Tasting Notes for you to fully appreciate the enclosed spirits. Each bottle of gin is a ‘tasting size’ which is 45ml, so let’s get stuck in!
Reisetbauer Blue Gin (43%)
Starting with the Reisetbauer Blue Gin, this gin is made on a family-run farm based in Austria which has been distilling gin since 1994. Named after the creator himself, Hans Reisetbauer puts an enormous amount of passion, care and dedication into growing his prized ingredients and the resulting Blue Gin has become world-famous as a result of his craft and innovation. Reisetbauer Blue Gin has a strong Juniper scent and body which comes through strongly on the tongue, but there are lots of lovely Sweet and Peppery hints of Apple, Wheat, Botanicals, Ginger, Honey and Grapefruit to keep this gin fresh, complex and interesting. A brilliant find and my favourite of the three gins in this tasting box.
Filliers Dry 28 (46%)
Filliers are one of the oldest spirits brands in the world and has been in operation in some form since the end of the 18th century in Belgium. However, it wasn’t until 1928 that Firmin Filliers came up with the recipe for this gin which is named after the blend of 28 different botanicals which makes this spirit so unique. It’s a classic that comes up in many higher end bars, so I’ve been wanting to try this gin for a long time and it didn’t disappoint. It has a wonderfully fruity element to it with strong notes of Lemon and Orange, but it’s still a predominantly dry and Juniper based gin which works so well in lots of different cocktails.
Sipsmith London Dry (41.6%)
Sipsmith London Dry is a British classic that has won many awards for its fine purity – in fact it even won the Flaviar Community Award this year as well! It has an interesting taste with subtle nutty undertones and even a small hint of Chocolate, mixed into with fruity notes of Lemon, Orange and of course that classic spicy Juniper. I can see why so many people enjoy Sipsmith and rate it as one of the best, because even though it has so many different flavours coming through, it’s still very fresh and ‘clean’, which is the perfect base for a mean Gin & Tonic.
