The Gousto box arrived last week and I’ve been really enjoying making the meals for my family over the past couple of days. Above is just a small snapshot of all of the ingredients that I found inside and everything was carefully packaged. The meat and dairy products came in a chiller bag, the dry ingredients were in the brown paper bag below and the fruit and veg were all very fresh.
I was also impressed with Gousto‘s commitment to the environment as they are working hard to reduce their plastic usage. One of the things that I really like about these kinds of boxes is that all of the ingredients are measured/portioned out exactly for you so that there’s no food waste. All you need to add is own vegetable oil, salt and pepper.
Each meal comes complete with an easy to follow recipe card which lists the calories/fat/macros content, so here are the meals that I chose and cooked for my family:-
Meal 1 – 10 Min Juicy Thai Prawn Salad
As we’re moving into Summer, I was keen to try some lighter meals and this 10 Min Jucy Thai Prawn Salad looked like a good one to try for a quick and easy mid-week meal. It’s been created by Joe Wicks (AKA The Body Coach) and comes in at a very healthy 307 calories / 3g of fat per serving.
This meal was so tasty! The prawns were big and juicy and the cucumber, carrots and little gem lettuce gave it some extra crunch and freshness. Although it’s a salad, the addition of the whole wheat noodles meant that it was very filling and substantial and I loved the spicy chilli and lime dressing which was the perfect accompaniment to the meal. The portion size was also huge!
Meal 2 – Tuscan Minestrone With Lemon & Basil
The second meal that we tried was a vegetarian one and I was pleased with the variety of vegetarian meals that Gousto has to offer. I chose the Tuscan Minestrone With Lemon & Basil which is part of their Journey Through Italy range. I’m a big fan of minestrone soup so I was excited to give this one a go.
Literally Summer in a bowl, this minestrone was amazing and again, it served up a decent sized portion and was very filling. It was a great way to get some more dark leafy greens such as Cavalo Nero into my diet, and it was packed full of flavour. The lemon and basil salsa added a lovely fresh zing to the meal, making it a winner with everyone who tried it!
Meal 3 – Chicken Katsu Curry
I don’t eat chicken (I’m mostly vegetarian and eat a bit of fish here and there), but the rest of the family requested a chicken dish and picked out the popular Chicken Katsu Curry from the Gousto website. Making this meal was a lot easier than I anticipated, and it was ready and on the table in less time than it stated on the recipe card which was a bonus.
The Chicken Katsu Curry went down very well with my family who loved the crunchy panko coating on the chicken and the milder curry sauce. Having brown rice and salad served with it made it into a big substantial dinner which they all thoroughly enjoyed.
Meal 4 – 10 Min Jumbo Prawn Saganaki
The fourth and final meal that we tried from Gousto was our favourite out of this box and it was the one that surprised us all the most! This Greek-style dish was super easy to whip up in just 10 minutes so it was another good option for a busy mid-week dinner.
Like the other prawn dish, these were also big and juicy and we all enjoyed the combination of flavours in this Summery dish. The sauce was ridiculously tasty with a nice subtle kick from the chilli flakes, and the sprinkling of feta and parsley finished it off beautifully. Yum!
