HelloFresh – Box Review 2016

If anyone knows anything about me at all, it’s that I love fresh, wholesome food. So when I was asked to review the ‘HelloFresh’ box – I literally couldn’t be more excited!

I first discovered HelloFresh some months back via an advertisement (I believe) on a very popular social media website – being the nosy curious foodie freak that I am, I checked them out – naturally, as one does!

I discovered that HelloFresh have tapped into a market that is both unique and innovative in it’s concept.

Most people spend their days trying to eat healthy, attempting to buy organic – or at the very least, fresh.

Many people try to live their lives by these rules, work long hours and don’t have the time, energy, or indeed the resources to cook fresh food for their families every night.

This is where HelloFresh come into their own: You don’t need to worry about buying masses of supplies to make your food taste good. We’ve all seen that recipe in a cookbook whereby we have 90% of the ingredients in the back of our cupboard, yet – what’s rice wine? and where do I get some at 7.30pm – ok, pass me the pizza menu already!

With HelloFresh, that fuss is minimised, there’s no hunting the supermarket aisles for everything you need (spending a fortune too no-doubt) for that one healthy meal; I had fresh produce delivered straight to my door – sure, I was at work so technically it was delivered straight to my neighbours door – however, due to the packaging (which I’ll come to later ) everything was still cold and fresh in the box hours later. Amazing!

So, after the excitement of unboxing all of the ingredients into the fridge, I settled down to look over the recipe cards included in the box. The recipes, rightly so, are kept to a minimal prep/cook time – everything you need is labelled and pre-measured for you. The processes’ are clearly detailed to make even the most novice of cooks confident in their own kitchens.

HelloFresh have a range of box to choose from:

  • The Classic Box – Fresh produce consisting of Veggies, meats and fish.
  • The Veggie Box – for all those Vegetarians out there
  • The Family Box – Created with families in mind, so nothing too spicy.

All boxes have different options, you can choose how many people your box will feed and for how many meals per week. So, it’s quite customisable to your families requirements.

You can also order a one off trial box with no commitment of subscription – so it’s worth trying it out first to see if it works for you and your family.

Below are the three meals that I made over the course of the week. I received a 3 meal box for 2 people.

Meal 1:

Chicken and Apricot Tagine with Turmeric Roasted Cauliflower and Couscous.

An easy to cook meal that didn’t take long to put together. The taste was pleasant enough, however I prefer a bit more flavour and would have spiced it up a little.

This was my favourite of the three meals. The taste of the lentils were divine and took on a creamy, meaty texture. I’ll definitely be cooking this recipe again for the family.

Noodles feature quite regular in our mealtimes, so cooking a different recipe was rather refreshing. I loved the way the recipe suggested how the beef was cooked (crispy, in thin strips) and shall be making this a lot more.

Overall:

3 well thought out meals that were tasty and easy to cook. Delivery and Packaging was excellent with ice packs in a natural wool cool bag to keep the meat and fresh produce cool. Recipes were easy to follow and calories per serving are featured on the recipe cards. The cards also feature pictures of everything you’ll need – just in case ;)
