The latest I Love Gin for June has recently arrived and is themed The Celebration Box. Below are the contents:-
Palmers Celebration (42% vol) and London Dry Gin (44% vol, 50ml each)
I absolutely love these beautiful square bottles from Palmers gin! With a heritage that goes back to London circa 1805, Palmers benefits from traditional methods of gin-making and boasts using some copper stills that are as old as the early 1800’s. One of their main copper stills is lovingly named Angela and was built in 1903 at the Langley Distillery which is situated over an ancient underground water source.
Here we have two gins from Palmers and both of these were such a pleasure to try! The first one that I tasted is the Celebration Gin – created from an original 300-year-old recipe with a Palmer family twist added for modern times. The introduction of Grapefruit Peel to the classic Juniper and Pine based gin gives Celebration its delightfully fresh and summery flavour that pairs well with fruity and floral tonics.
The London Dry Gin, on the other hand, is a straight-up classic with a blend of traditional botanicals such as Juniper, Coriander Seeds, Liquorice Root, Angelica Root, Cassia Bark and Orris Root, which are left to infuse overnight before being gently warmed up to allow the botanicals to release all of their aromatic essential oils and flavour.
Double Dutch Pomegranate & Basil and Spices & Oakwood Tonic Waters
For the mixers, I Love Gin have included two from the premium brand Double Dutch. This luxury range of mixers now includes eight varieties with more in development which is very exciting news! I really enjoyed both of these tonics; the Pomegranate & Basil has something of a sweet and tart flavour with a peppery top note that works well with the sharp pomegranate and perfectly complimented the Palmers Celebration gin.
By contrast, the Spices & Oakwood flavour, which was launched as a Limited Edition bottle back in 2017, can be drunk as a standalone drink and is ideal with dark spirits and spicy gins. The mix of Cinnamon, Clove, Star Anise, Nutmeg and Vanilla gives it an almost classic Christmassy profile, so it’s a good one to bring out for special occasions.
As an extra bonus, I also found a small Bottle Green Cordial in Plump Summer Raspberry which is a fun and fruity way to add a splash of summer berries to your G&T!
