I Love Gin – October 2019: The Sweet And Spicy Box

Gin lovers unite! Have you heard of I Love Gin? This brilliant monthly subscription box sends you a special selection of gins and tonics to enjoy in the comfort of your own home (ideal for such a cold and wet weekend like this one!). You’ll receive two mini bottles of small-batch/artisan gin and two bottles of premium mixers/tonics to enjoy.

As you can see in the photo above, the contents are protected by cushioning in the box so everything arrives in perfect condition.

This month’s I Love Gin is themed The Sweet And Spicy Box so let’s check out the contents:-

Aber Falls Rhubarb And Ginger Gin (50ml, 41.3%)

First up, we have a delicious Rhubarb & Ginger Gin from Aber Falls. Produced by the first distillery of its kind in North Wales for more than 100 years, Aber Falls has created an exceptional range of premium small-batch spirits and uses locally sourced botanicals, as well as water from the Rhaedr Fawr (the famous Aber Falls waterfall). This flavoured gin has subtle spices and a tart rhubarb which is perfectly balanced by piney juniper notes and a warming ginger finish. It reminds me of a homemade crumble and is the ideal gin to cosy up to a cold night!

Boatyard Old Tom Gin (50ml, 46%)

The second featured gin comes from Boatyard Distillery which is a farm-to-bottle business located on the banks of Lough Erne in north-west Ireland. Using only organic ingredients, this family-run distillery takes great pride in its products and Boatyard Old Tom Gin is its second release. With notes of candied lemon peel, vanilla and cinnamon spice, it has a beautiful silky orange finish and a pronounced juniper flavour throughout. To me, it tastes very ‘Christmassy’ and I’ve really enjoyed trying it.

Franklin & Sons Rhubarb Tonic Water with Hibiscus and Original Ginger Ale (both 200ml)

The mixers this month are both from Franklin & Sons, but they are very different. One is the Rhubarb Tonic Water with Hibiscus, one of four new flavours which have recently been added to their range. It complements the Aber Falls Rhubarb Gin perfectly as you can imagine, however, I think it would work well with any gin to bring some extra flavour. Finally, there’s a bottle of the brand’s Original Ginger Ale which has a blend of natural ginger flavours which adds a subtle spice and warmth to your drink.

Our score: 9.8/ 10

A perfectly themed box to warm up these cold and wet Autumn evenings!
