We always love it when the latest Mud & Bloom box arrives but this one was a little different..It was quite exciting to get this box through the door to discover there was something alive inside!
What’s in the box?
- Make your own nature loom
- Grow your own willow tree
- Make a colourful windsock
- Grow your own sweet peas
- Nature quiz
- Spring flower spotting guide
The highlights
You couldn’t miss the windsock activity! We had so much fun cutting up the crepe paper and making patterns. The glue stick was great and there was plenty of crepe paper, you could definitely save some and make another one. It was such a great activity for little ones as they could do most of the work. We ended up making ours as a rainy day activity so had to wait a week or so before using it.
Back to that ‘living’ willow! We unpacked the box and popped ours straight into water. It was fascinating to see how quickly leaves and roots started to sprout.
Within a few days we had leaves and after about 2 weeks those two wands looked more like this…
Amazing right?!
We also really enjoyed the nature loom; it was a great way to talk about looms and weaving and how material and clothes are made. Tying the twine tightly was a little fiddly so I had to do that part but the rest was easy for small hands.
We used the opportunity to weave some daffodils through ours, and they looked really bright and sunny. We’re definitely going to be trying this activity again, maybe later in the year, with some multicoloured autumn leaves.
Last but by no means least, we’ve sewn our sweet peas and can’t wait to plant them. They’re one of my favourite flowers so we want to find the perfect spot for them.
