The highlights
Without a doubt the activity we really loved this month was the wax leaves. The box came with four mini beeswax blocks and thread so all we needed to add was an old tin can, a saucepan and some water. This was definitely an activity that required adult supervision, but it was great fun. My six year old was able to dip the leaves into the melted wax and after we left them to dry out overnight we turned them into an autumnal mobile that we’ve hung up in my craft room/our spare room.
I’m a huge fan of the seeds you get every month and this month was no different. The winter purslane looks beautiful and I can’t wait to sew it soon (our garden needs, how shall we say it, a little ‘work’ as we’ve neglected it a bit recently. We’ll probably plant ours indoors first before moving it to the garden later.
The tulips were also a great addition as they are my husbands favorite flower. I plan to plant these in the two pots we have at the front of our house so they’ll make a nice bright greeting once we come to spring.
We were also big fans of the nature box idea in this months box. A really simple idea but one that each child can ‘customise’ and collect their own treasures in. We’ve actually saved this one for half term next week, and we’re really looking forward to seeing what we can find.
