I’ve been trying to get in shape for Summer, and I’m also wanting to take better care of myself by working out and eating the right stuff, so I was really excited to try a healthy box like this. I was kindly sent May’s Myvitamins Snackbox which contained all of the following products:-My Vitamins Omega 3, 6 & 9 Food Supplement (60 soft gel capsules – RRP £4.99)
Omegas are essential for keeping the heart and eyes healthy and functioning properly, and these fish-oil based supplements of Omega 3, 6 & 9 provide a balanced blend of Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA), Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA), Linoleic Acid, Gamma Linoleic Acid and Oleic Acid. Each soft gel capsule provides 1200mg of Omega 3, 6 and 9 and you can take 1-3 capsules per day. Being soft gel capsules, these are easy and smooth to swallow, and they don’t have a fishy aftertaste like some other brands do. A great way to get these essential fatty acids into your daily diet, and ideal if like me, you’re not particularly keen on eating fish.My Vitamins BCAA Food Supplement (30 tablets – RRP £5.99)
Branched Chain Amino Acids (BCAAs) contain a 2:1:1 ratio of Leucine, Isoleucine and Valine. They are considered to be essential amino acids as they cannot be synthesised in the body. I’ve been looking at picking up some of these recently as you primarily use them before, during and/or after workouts to help to increase lean mass, whilst reducing your overall body fat levels, which is exactly what I want! These tablets are quite big, so I find them easier to take with a meal, rather than on their own. You can take 3-5 tablets 2-4 times a day, depending on how intense your workouts and exercise regime is.Myvitamins Ginseng (30 capsules – RRP £4.99)
Ginseng is a well known and hugely popular natural herb that’s been used for thousands of years. It’s been proven to help lower blood sugar and cholesterol levels, reduce stress and it gives you an overall healthy energy boost which can help fight fatigue throughout the day. Each one-a-day capsule provides 450mg of Korean Ginseng, and 20mg of the potent active component Ginsenosides. Ginseng is available from various countries around the world, however, the Korean species of the plant is seen as the most potent form. If you need more energy, this is definitely one to try and the capsules are easy to swallow.Blk Water (500ml bottle – RRP £2.49)
Blk water is one of those products that you see constantly on Instagram and I’ve been curious to try it for a long time! This is an alkaline mineral water that has been infused with naturally black fulvic trace minerals. It has a distinct black colour which comes from the infusion of the fulvic trace minerals with fresh alkaline water – no food dye or anything dodgy! Fulvic trace minerals are thought to contain an abundance of natural plant-sourced nutrients including natural electrolytes, amino acids, 77 trace minerals, antioxidants and a pH of 8.0+. Blk is also naturally free from carbs, calories, sugars and caffeine, so it’s a healthy way to rehydrate.
I had to do a taste test with this and a glass of normal mineral water, and you know what? It tastes just like regular mineral water – I couldn’t tell the difference at all, so now you know if you’ve been wondering what blk water tastes like!Bioglan Superfoods Supergreens Powder (10g sample sachet)
Packed full of 81 vital ingredients which provide the full spectrum of A-Z nutrients, this 100% natural concentrated powder is derived from an expert blend of super greens, superfoods, fruits, vegetables, herbs and live cultures. To use it, you just add 10g to 200-300ml of plain water or your favourite non-acidic juice/smoothie and mix it up. I used the sample above with a glass of plain water to see what the colour would turn out like, and I mixed it up in my blender. It has a natural tropical flavour which is really good – in fact, it’s one of the best tasting super greens powders that I’ve ever tried! Gluten free and suitable for vegans, this powder is perfect for anyone who has a busy lifestyle or is on a restrictive diet, as it helps to ensure that you get all the right nutrients that you need every day.
The Giving Tree Mixed Veg Crisps (22g – RRP £1.85)
I’ve tried a lot of healthier crisp alternatives, but these ones from The Giving Tree are the most unusual that I’ve come across in the respect that the ‘crisps’ still actually look like vegetables – because they are! This bag of mixed veg crisps contains just three ingredients; Broccoli, Pumpkin and a small amount of Rice Bran Oil. The veggies are ‘vacuum fried’ which helps to retain their nutrients and gives the crisps a delicious and satisfying crunchy texture. Yum!Snact Apple & Raspberry Fruit Jerky (20g – RRP £1)
I’ve had these before and they’re awesome. Snact are an ethical company who buy ‘ugly’ fruit that would otherwise be rejected by supermarkets and sent to landfill (such a waste!). They turn this ugly fruit into fruit jerky that’s made with just 100% fruit and nothing else, so it’s gluten free and suitable for vegans. These bags of fruit jerky are great to have in your handbag to keep sweet cravings at bay, and they’re really nice and chewy. I think dried fruit fans and kids will love these as each bag counts as one of your five a day.Myprotein Organic Raw Bar in Raspberry & Acai Berry Flavour (35g, RRP £1.32)
This Organic Raw Bar from Myprotein is made from simple natural ingredients and contains only a blend of Dates, Cashew Nuts, Date Syrup, Raspberries, Acai Berries and natural raspberry flavour. I love bars like these as a post-gym/post workout snack and they’re handy to keep in your bag for a quick healthy treat on the go. Great texture with a subtle tart berry flavour and counts as one of your five a day.Deliciously Ella Protein Ball in Almond & Blueberry (50g – RRP £1.79)
Deliciously Ella is one of my favourite healthy food gurus and chefs, and I have all of her cookbooks. These energy balls are based on the exact same recipe in her books, with this Almond & Blueberry flavour being one of the latest to launch. Packed full of 8g of plant based protein per ball, it’s a dense and chewy mix of Dates, Almond Butter, Almonds, Hemp Protein, Date Syrup and freeze-dried Blueberries. Perfect as a post-workout treat to take advatnge of all of that protein!
