This time I have come face to face with the NerdBlock box… Wish me luck.

nerdblock 1

First off I have to say The Nerd Block box is really quite nice. I’m a sucker for nice packaging. Although I have to admit I  ended up reading the label on the box and had the whole surprise ruined for myself (damn you customs laws! Can’t you put a spoiler notice on it or something?). But enough about my personal problems with that let’s get our nerd on.

nerdblock 3

The first item I pulled out was a t-shirt. The quality of the t-shirt itself seems to be quite good and not a cheap transfer on a cheap t-shirt. I haven’t had the chance to give it the 5 trips to the washing machine test just yet but I have high hopes it will pass with flying colours (colour that hopefully don’t fly onto my other clothes). Not being the greatest TMNT fan I can say I like the design on the front, it’s not to flashy or kiddie so it doesn’t look ridiculous on a fully grown adult.

nerdblock 4Next we have a Nerf Zombie Strike gun. Now we’re talking! Let me tell you, if I had a Pound for every night I have stayed awake at night worried about what I am going to do about the zombie invasion I would be just as poor as I am today, but man this gun is cool. It is a simple single shot handgun that comes with 2 foamy discs. It was stiff the first few times using it but it was simple to use and fairly accurate as my kids and cat will testify. The wife’s turn to make the coffee so I ain’t shooting her just yet.

nerdblock 5Also in the box was a DVD about Comic-Con. It comes with two figures: the man, the myth, the legend, the godfather of Marvel comics himself Stan Lee and also one of Harry Knowles, who is a Internet film critic. The DVD itself it a documentary of the world famous San Diego 2010 Comic-Con but in my opinion only nerds would enjoy this. So luckily its in the Nerd Block and I am enjoying watching it as I type this review.

Up next flying out of the box is a Star Wars Tie-Fighter deformed plush toy. It looks kinda lost not having a X-Wing to chase and shoot down but I’m sure it will be happy here anyway. It’s well made and has something stiff in the wings to keep its shape and looks good. Not the most detailed thing in the world but I’m guessing that’s the appeal of the deformed plush toy line. Looking at the card that comes with the box there are others to collect.

nerdblock 6Lastly is a magazine The Star Wars Insider. Which, if the title doesn’t give it away, is full of facts about the Star Wars universe. This month seems to be centred around fan girls and their impact on the Star Wars universe. Having skim-read some of it, I think it would be an interesting read for anybody interested in Star Wars.

The Nerd Block itself costs $19.99 a month plus shipping. Now don’t you all start to worry about that big number now because that’s Canadian Dollars, which at the time of writing (August 2014) was slightly more than £10 a month. When you take into consideration the fact that the Nerf gun alone was priced at Amazon at £20 I think we have a box full of value for money. Looking back on it, I have to say I really did enjoy this box. When the biggest fault I can find is not being a HUGE fan of something, or that I have to reload my toy gun after every shot when terrorizing my kids, well you can’t complain about that can you?
