The Nerd Block Jr offers something a little different for kids aged 6-11. Great if you’re already a subscriber to any of the other NerdBlocks and your little one is feeling left out. For $13.99 CAD (Canadian Dollars) you can order the Nerd Block Jr boys or girls. Both have some fantastic goodies in which will keep your little one entertained for a few hours (definitely worth it during the holidays)!

The Nerd Block Jr boxes both have a simple design coming in either blue or purple with large logos on. Any child would be excited to have this come to their door.

Nerd Block Jr Girls is great if you’re daughter, granddaughter, niece, is a girly girl. Previous boxes have contained items from Hello Kitty, My Little Pony, etc. Our Nerd Block Jr box contained a few lovely goodies.

Nerd Block pin art

My eight year old loved all of the items, especially the pin art.

The Hello Kitty figure was a collectible one (Natalie already has a couple) and luckily she didn’t already have it. The soft toy ball was quite solid and seemed to take quite a beating – yes, you guessed it, Charlotte my 3 year old got a hold of it and launched it across the room. The boing noise still works luckily, so it ticks all boxes for Natalie there, and is quite cute to look at.
The favourite was the pin art though. A simple enough design – plastic casing sandwiching in the pins, also plastic. A nice clear Nerdblock logo also displayed in it. Natalie had hours do fun playing with this and even though it’s made from plastic, I have to say it manages to hold shapes well! The perfect size for little hands too.

Verdict: the box is a lovely idea for girls and makes a great treat or holiday gift. I felt, compared to the adult boxes, it’s lacking in quantity. However, it is $13.99 CAD so I guess if you totalled the items up and took into account the quality of products, you really are getting value for money :)

Well, if you’ve read my reviews you’ll know I have a three year old daughter/tomboy who tends to get into most of my boxes!
Charlotte received the Nerd Block Jr Boys box. I felt this would cause less squabbling in the long run. The box, like the girl’s box, is also aimed at kids 6-11. Charlotte is three but I thought this would allow looking at whether it would be suitable for a younger audience or not.

The contents of the box were:

Playmobil pirate
Lego Power Ranger
Hulk flashing toy
Nerd Block pin art.

The contents all seemed to amuse Charlotte, but her two favourites were the pin art, like her big sister, and the Hulk.

The Power Ranger toy comes from a collectible range and I’m sure if Charlotte was a fan, she’d love it. The figure has to be built, which is fairly easy to do even without instructions. It can be attached to stand on a Lego brick and weapon. There are some small pieces too which the weapon clicks into, so that when you have them all you can make an ultimate weapon. The playmobil pirate also carries a weapon and stands. Charlotte preferred this toy out of the two as it was a bit chunkier for her small hands to hold. This would be great for any collector.

The pin art was exactly the same as Natalie’s and the girls sat for hours making faces in them, putting hands in, casting knees, elbows, and other parts and trying to guess what each were. The pin art was an ideal size for Charlotte’s hands as you’ll see in picture, so I feel it would suit a range of ages.
The Hulk is a great toy and entertained the whole family. He looks rather basic and is made from a soft jelly like rubber similar to puffer toys you can get to squeeze and de-stress. When you give the Hulk a squeeze, there is a little solid ball inside that moves and he flashed various colours over and over. This worked especially well at night for us. I have to say I am impressed with the quality and what I assume to be battery life. He has withstood a lot of pressing from the whole family and still works well with no fading.

Verdict: I have to say I preferred this box to the girls one, which I didn’t expect at all. I really liked the fact that the two boxes had one item which was the same, this would work well for any family with a boy and a girl – prevents fighting :) The items, although they did not all appeal to Charlotte were good well known names and toys which would appeal to most kids in the target age group. The box, as I pointed out can also be bought for kids outside of the age bracket too if they’re fans of the featured franchise. A great concept having boxes for children too and great value for money, just like the adult boxes.
