The award-winning Parrot Street Book Club has been delighting its 5 to 14-year-old subscribers with brilliant books and activities since 2018.
Founders Emily and Sarah, both mothers and dedicated bookworms, are passionate about the power of reading and set up the club to help kids (and their parents) discover brilliant books and be motivated to read regularly.
Each monthly subscription box contains a different and exciting chapter book, which you’re unlikely to have discovered yourself (no classics, bestsellers or celebrity authors).
But the fun doesn’t stop there – every book is accompanied by book club-style questions and exciting activity ideas which encourage kids to spend more time thinking and talking about books.
★ ★ ★ ★ ★ “Your book coming through the post to my 7-year-old each month is like actual reading MAGIC!”
~Liz
Three reading groups
There are three reading groups to choose between, depending on the child’s age and reading confidence:
Parakeets
Illustrated chapter books to share or have a go at reading independently – aimed at 5 to 8-year-olds.
Cockatoos
Longer chapter books for more independent readers aged 8 to 12.
Macaws
Substantial chapter books for tweens and teens aged roughly 12 to 14-years-old.
Each letterbox-friendly parcel contains a chapter book to keep, book club-style questions to ponder and activity ideas to enjoy. Before their first box arrives, each new subscriber also receives a welcome pack containing a bookmark, pencil, storage envelope and other goodies.
Price
Subscriptions start from £14 for one monthly box, including UK shipping.
You can choose whether to pre-pay for 1, 3, 6 or 12 monthly deliveries. All subscriptions auto-renew at the end of the pre-paid term but this can be cancelled at any time.
When a child becomes a reader they get the very best start in life. For that reason Parrot Street Book Club donates 50p to Coram Beanstalk every time a subscription box is shipped. When you purchase a subscription you’re helping to support this fantastic children’s reading charity working in schools throughout the UK.
