Weekend Box – March 2019: Marvellous Mothers Day

It’s wonderful to see your child’s face light up when they see a package come through the door for them and that’s definitely the case with the Weekend Box. The theme of this month’s box was Mothers Day and we had great fun doing the projects together.

What’s in the box?

  • Make your own funky photo holder
  • Create your own pretty petals sun catcher
  • Design and make your own mini scroll mothers day card
  • Bake some mini meringue kisses
  • Activity book (including instructions for each project)
  • Stickers
  • Height chart

Our Favourite – funky photo holder

This was a really easy activity that resulted in a lovely little photo holder. It was simple enough for our 6 year old son to do on his own with only minimal help from me and we’ve now got a really sweet little photo holder that we both really love. All of the buttons already had double sided tape on them and threading the peg on to the pipe cleaner was pretty easy. The hardest part was finding a rock and getting the pipe cleaner taut enough to stay in place.

Ready for action

We haven’t made the pretty petal sun catcher just yet because we have a lot of leaves but not many flowers in our garden at the moment. We’re going to keep this one for the next month or two when we’ve got some more flowers and can really make a pretty little sun catcher, one that we might possibly give as a gift to Nannie or Grandma. I love the fact the projects are small enough to pack away without using up too much space and we now have a little selection of activities we can get out when we have the time,.

Yummy!

Unfortunately the sick bug hit our house with a vengeance so we’re not yet quite ‘ready’ to make the meringue kisses but just like the petal sun catcher we’ve set this one aside to make in future, probably next weekend. We love the fact that we have everything we need and can’t wait to give these a try.

The only disappointment

The only reason this box isn’t getting a full 10/10 review is because of this task. I think we may have just had a ‘dud’ because it just seemed that nothing really worked. The glue wouldn’t stick down the paper to the lolly sticks and the gems wouldn’t stick to the lolly sticks either. Maybe the glue stick wasn’t sticky enough! However it was an interesting idea and gave us food for thought for other ideas in future.

Our score: 9.4/ 10

This was a great box and it was so much fun doing the activities together. I'm not a fan of how commercialised Mothers Day is (especially as it's usually right next to my birthday), but this gave us a set of lovely little activities that we could do together and it was really good fun seeing how much our son enjoyed making the photo holder as well as spending quality time together. The only reason for the reduced marks was for the scroll activity because we just weren't able to do it due to the glue not working very well.
