Your Sommelier is a monthly wine subscription box.
Every month you will receive 3 bottles of French wine selected by our Sommeliers with matching tasting cards including food pairing, information about wine, regions and appellations. You’ll also get our welcome binder to regroup all of your cards.
There are two options:
Discovery Box – A perfect introduction. Discover and learn. £36/Month
Expert Box – The finest French wines for Connoisseurs. £60/Month.
The wine arrives very well protected in both an outer and an inner box.
Your Sommelier often focuses on a region, but this month we have a theme: Bistro Wines. This is wine that doesn’t necessarily need to be paired with food, but instead can be drunk on its own, as the French do in Cafes and Brasseries.
The box has two reds and a white. I love both white and red wine, but as it’s still winter and cold, I’m glad for two bottles of red!
I’ll start with the white!
La Tournee Blanc 2017 Ferraton
Even though it’s winter, I happened to drink this when we had a patch of warmer weather! This was delicious and quite light, but a lovely fresh flavour, lots of citrus. I think it would go beautifully with salmon or a lovely cold summer dish, perhaps eaten in a cafe in Paris in the summertime!
Les Beaux Gosses Rouge 2017
The Grenache and Syrah in this wine makes is pleasantly fruity without being heavy. While the food pairing suggests grilled meat, I ate spaghetti bolognaise with this, which worked beautifully. The flavour was light but nicely spicy, and very easy to drink, and you might notice that the bottle is almost empty before I remembered to take a picture!
Finally, Pinot Noir Enfants Terrible 2017
My husband and I both love Pinot Noir, so we were thrilled to have this bottle! This was definitely easy to drink, and for once I managed to coordinate food with wine suggestions, and we ate this with pizza! Not very French, but it’s worked perfectly. Like the other two wines it wasn’t heavy, but had a lovely depth of flavour. Lots of fruit, you could drink this with pretty much anything!
Your Sommelier does a very good job with selecting wines that are going to have a wide appeal. Despite their always excellent suggestions of food pairings (including a terrific cheese pairing box last year) I’ve found that their wines are very forgiving of slightly random meals, such as emergency beans on toast!
I really like this month’s selection. The idea of wines that can be drunk easily either alone or with food really appeals to me. This month’s box has given me a great excuse to simply sit and sip a glass of wine, and enjoy it on its own.
